A new year brings fresh beginnings — the perfect time to dream about where you’d like your music to take you.
When students have clear musical goals, progress happens faster and practice becomes more meaningful. Once your mind knows where it’s going, it naturally finds better ways to get there. Practice still matters, of course — but when it’s guided by clear goals and small step-by-step targets, it becomes more focused, more motivating, and far more rewarding.
Your goals can lead anywhere: performing on stage, playing in church, starring in a school musical, teaching others, or simply enjoying music for life. Whatever your dream, turning it into specific goals gives it power and direction.
Take a moment to think ahead:
Where do you hope your music will be in 10 years?
In 5 years?
In 5 months?
Even in the next 5 weeks?
When your short-term and long-term goals support each other, you build steady, confident progress. Talk about your goals with your teacher and your parents, and write them down — writing turns dreams into plans.
Becoming excellent at anything takes time, patience, and commitment. Great musicians aren’t made overnight; they grow through consistent, thoughtful effort.
Start today. With each small step, you’ll be building not just musical skill, but confidence, discipline, and a love of learning that will benefit every part of your life.
Keep practicing! Dawn Elmer, Academy Director
